Krystal K. Thompson

Founder & Partner

Krystal K. Thompson is an international lawyer by training and a leadership practitioner with more than 25 years of first-hand global experience working across cultures and institutional systems in Asia, Africa, Central America, and the Middle East. Her work bridges institutional depth and cultural understanding, supporting people and organizations as they navigate complexity and responsibility in high-stakes environments.

Her early career focused on governance, the rule of law, and institutional reform. Over time, her work has expanded beyond formal legal frameworks to examine how leadership is exercised in practice — particularly how culture, power, and human dynamics shape decision-making and institutional effectiveness.

Krystal’s approach integrates institutional experience with cultural intelligence, working at the intersection of accountability, cross-cultural navigation, and sustained leadership within complex systems.

She is the founder of Leading in Complex Systems, a structured initiative within the GED platform supporting experienced professionals and decision-makers working in high-responsibility institutional environments.

She currently advises institutions operating under pressure to strengthen integrity and leadership practice. Her recent work includes leading the development of gender-based violence and sexual exploitation and abuse (GBV/SEAH) standard operating procedures for an energy company in Southeast Asia as part of a corporate social responsibility and risk-mitigation initiative supported by the Asian Development Bank. She also collaborates with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on workshops examining gendered dynamics in trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling, and she contributed to the development of UNDP’s Global Programme for Strengthening the Rule of Law, Justice, Security and Human Rights, supporting strategic design and regional alignment.
